ISLAMABAD: The fourth class of Levies from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) graduated from a US government-sponsored training programme, the Levy Basic Recruit Course, at the Police Headquarters here on Saturday.

According to a statement issued by the US embassy, with the graduation of this 37-member class, a total of 224 Fata Levies have received basic training since May 2010 under the sponsorship of US Embassy Islamabad’s Police Assistance Programme.

Deputy Secretary of Narcotics for the Fata Munirullah Khan presided over the ceremony and presented the graduates with certificates honouring their achievement.

“The graduation is the latest milestone in the US police training programme, which has to date provided $17 million worth of equipment to the Fata Secretariat, including vehicles, communications equipment, body armour and other items,” the statement said.
