KARACHI: Four people were killed and at least 42 others sustained injuries in a blast in Federal B Area of this port city of Pakistan on Tuesday evening.
The injured were shifted to hospitals and police reached the site of the explosion near a furniture market. Some of the injured were stated to be in critical condition and that one of the killed people was worker of a political party.
The bomb appeared to have been planted on a motorbike parked within the vicinity of the blast site. “We are investigating whether it was a time device or a remote-controlled bomb,” a police official said.
The blast, which took place near Federal B Area’s Aysha Manzil, was heard as far as Numaish area of the city.
The blast was strongly condemned by a number of political figures, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
The explosion took place days after a powerful blast inside an inter-city bus near Karachi’s Cantonment Railway Station killed at least six people and left at least 50 others, including women and children, injured.
