Maverick Report

illness_due_to_heat_surveyISLAMABAD: Nearly half (45 percent) of Pakistanis have said that members of their household fell ill due to the intensity of hot weather this season.

In a Gilani Research Foundation survey, a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked: “Did any person in your household fall ill due to intensity of hot weather this season?”

Responding to this question, 45 percent of the respondents answered yes and 54 percent said no while one percent did not give a response.

A comparison of answers between respondents from across the four provinces revealed that more people from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had their household members fallen ill (65 percent) than in any other province. In Punjab (41 percent), Sindh (42 percent) and Balochistan (46 percent) a relatively smaller number of households reported illness in their families due to hot weather.

The study released by Gilani Foundation was carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International, among a sample of 2,661 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country between June 3 and 10, 2013.

Error margin is estimated to be approximately ±2-3 percent at 95 percent confidence level.
