Beijing asks Islamabad to ensure safety of Chinese nationals

Maverick Report

BEIJING: Strongly condemning a militant attack on Nanga Parbat base camp in Diamer district of mountainous Gilgit-Baltistan province that left nine foreign climbers, including three Chinese, and a local guide dead on Sunday, China has asked Pakistan to guarantee the safety of its nationals.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attack and demanded of the Pakistan government to bring to justice those involved in the incident, China’s state news agency reported.

The Chinese foreign office said the Chinese embassy in Pakistan maintained close contact with Pakistan’s foreign and interior ministries and military to further verify related information. The embassy has reportedly asked Pakistan to make all-out efforts for taking care of the survivors, apprehend the gunmen as soon as possible and take measures to guarantee the safety and legitimate rights of Chinese citizens in Pakistan.
