Mounting inflation: 84% of Pakistanis say their household expenditures rose

household_expenditure_surveyISLAMABAD: A huge majority (84 percent) of Pakistanis say that their household expenditures have increased due to mounting inflation levels, according to a Gilani Research Foundation survey.

In the survey, a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked: “To what extent have your household expenditures been impacted by mounting inflation in recent times?”

Responding to this question, 51 percent of the respondents said to a great extent, 33 percent said to some extent, 12 percent said very little and two percent said not at all. However, two percent chose not to respond.

The study, released by Gilani Foundation, was carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International among a sample of 2,646 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country between June 17 and 24, 2013.

Error margin is estimated to be approximately ±2-3 percent at 95 percent confidence level.
