Zardari seeks report on relief measures for Pakistanis affected by landslide

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on March 08 sought a report from the governor of Gilgit-Baltistan on the relief and rehabilitation measures for the residents of Attaabad in the Hunza Valley affected by a recent landslide.

The president also asked for report on steps taken for draining an artificial lake. The massive landslide had hit Hunza district on January 4 leading to the sliding of two villages including Attaabad into the Hunza River. The landslide wiped out everything in its way and the debris fell down into the Hunza River, blocking it.

The landslide caused loss of life and destruction of private property. The president had asked for immediate measures to provide relief to the affected families.

On March 08, the president sought a report about the measures taken by Gilgit-Baltistan administration and also by the federal government regarding the provision of shelter, food and medical help for the displaced people. He also asked about the progress on measures taken to drain the artificial lake that was a growing threat to the downstream areas.
